WHAT MATERIALS ARE USED TO CREATE BY1OAK JEWELRY?

At BY1OAK, we work exclusively with high-quality precious metals to ensure you enjoy your purchase for as long as possible. With proper care, our jewelry can last year after year. • 925 Sterling Silver: we work exclusively with sterling silver for its quality, durability, and timeless appeal. Sterling silver is an alloy composed of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% copper, a combination that enhances strength while preserving the beauty of fine silver.

• Gold Plated Silver: The base for our gold plated jewelry is 925 sterling silver. Our rings are gold plated with a thickness of 3 micron, all the other categories are gold plated with 1 micron gold. The longevity of the gold layer on our gold-plated jewelry depends on several factors, such as the acidity of your skin and the frequency and intensity of wear. It is normal for gold-plated jewelry to lose some of its shine over time. We offer a regilding service, allowing you to have your BY1OAK jewelry re-coated with a fresh layer of gold. • 14K Solid Gold: Like Sterling Silver, pure Gold is also too soft for daily wear as jewelry; so to increase it’s strength and durability, pure gold is alloyed with other metals such as silver and copper, resulting in the different carats (and colours) of gold. We use 14k recycled gold for our 14k solid gold collection.

According to Dutch regulations, jewellery made of silver (from 8 grams) and gold (from 1 gram) must carry a hallmark recognized in the Netherlands. Jewellery below these weight thresholds is exempt from this requirement. All BY1OAK jewellery meets these legal requirements and is hallmarked by Waarborg Holland, an independent Assay Office authorized by the Dutch government. This hallmark certifies the authenticity and purity of the precious metals used. HOW CAN I TAKE CARE OF MY BY1OAK JEWELRY

Every BY1OAK design is conceived as a modern heirloom to enjoy for years to come. As the precious materials we love to work with require specific care, we have summarized our best tips in a care guide. General tips - regardless of the material: Jewelry loves to be worn. Regular wear helps prevent the buildup of dirt and oxidation, thanks to the natural friction that occurs throughout the day. However, to keep your pieces looking their best, we recommend avoiding contact with water, chlorine, cleaning agents, body lotions, shampoo, perfume, and similar substances whenever possible. When you're not wearing your BY1OAK jewelry, we recommend storing it in a sealed container in a dry place — ideally in the jewelry box or pouch you received with your purchase.

• 925 sterling silver: 925 sterling silver jewelry oxidizes naturally with air and humidity.  Occasional cleaning with a special cloth will keep the silver shiny and remove the oxidation. If you do not wear your jewelry, the best way to avoid oxidation, is to keep your silver jewelry in a closed box or bag that is protected from air. The silver polish cloths are available in our webshop and at most jewelers. It is recommended to clean your jewelry carefully, keeping in mind that the jewelry is handmade en needs to be handled with care and attention. • Gold Plated Silver: All of our gold-plated jewelry is made with a base of sterling silver. Gold-plated pieces may oxidize over time; this oxidation can be polished off (see the 925 sterling silver section for more details). Our gold plated jewelry is plated with a carefully concidered thickness of 14k gold, depending on the product type (rings, bracelets, necklaces, earrings) — ranging from 1 to 3 microns. Over time, and depending on factors such as how often the jewelry is worn and the acidity of your skin, the gold layer may gradually lose its shine and wear off, eventually revealing the silver base underneath. The durability of the gold layer varies from person to person. We offer a one-time, 6-month warranty on the gold plating. If you would like to have your piece regilded, we offer a special service- for a small fee, your jewelry can be re-coated with a fresh layer of gold — making it look as good as new.

• 14k Solid Gold: At BY1OAK, we work with 14 karat gold because pure gold — 24 karat — is too soft for everyday wear. In 14 karat gold jewelry, 58.5% of the piece consists of pure gold, with the remaining percentage made up of alloy metals such as silver and copper to enhance strength and durability. Due to the presence of these alloy metals, pieces from our 14k solid gold collection may still oxidize over time. If this occurs, you can gently polish your jewelry using a special polishing cloth (available in our webshop or at most jewelers). If polishing doesn’t fully restore the shine, we recommend reaching out to our customer service team. We’ll be happy to assist you with additional cleaning tips and advice.
